ILBLUINTERRA
2002 – 2004, Irsina
Land art intervention in the countryside of Matera, specifically in the territory of Irsina. To navigate the vastness of the area, the artist created a walking path, identifying fixed starting and ending points along with intermediate stops. Like Hansel and Gretel, the artist left a clearly visible yet ephemeral trace of her passage.
If these works are set in spaces significantly modified by humans, where the gap between humanity and nature varies in depth, then art and nature explore their possibilities within urban environments. Conversely, if the works are placed in areas dominated by nature, where the relationship with humanity is completely reversed, the artistic intervention will be guided by the place itself, transforming it into a landscape that highlights its inherent aesthetic potential and characteristics.
Through my frequent visits to the Lucanian territory, where vast, mostly uninhabited spaces reveal nature’s power, I felt the need to embark on an artistic exploration dedicated to these places. This is my first Land Art piece, born from a desire to overcome the disorientation caused by the vastness of these spaces and from a need to connect with the places by establishing reference points. Abandoned structures painted blue and a blue trail became my measuring system to orient, reference, remember, and become familiar with the area. I identified sequences of planes, framed views, invented perspectives, and gathered thoughts and reflections.
These are my Paesaggi nei luoghi.
